Thom,
just read your reply to JD, sounds Veeeeery interesting. It jogged my memory too. I suddenly remembered that in the mag that I got the Clown breeding article from there's a bit on sub-tropical fish imports to the UK. It just so happens that I've got it here at work with me right now. There's a great picture of Botia superciliaris, another of an elongated kinda-botia (more elongate than a Yo-yo,for instance), Chinese in origin and tentatively id'd as genus Parabotia or Pseudobotia. This has vertical, sort of stripey blotches to half the body depth and 2 prominent horizontal upper head stripes.Another is Noemacheilus potanini, an elongate fish with sort of a wide Dojo shaped head and 16 vertical chocolate stripes, somewhat like a kuhlii. There's another Noemacheilus sp., called a Green Threadfin Loach , same kinda shape, but silvery-brown with a horizontal dark-greenish stripe along the lateral line. All of these and more were imported in 95/6 into England, and the article states that one outlet had 5 Botia species, suited to temperate tanks. Of course we have in England 2 native loaches, the Spined Loach, Cobitis taenia, and the Stone loach, Nemacheilus barbatulus. Unfortunately both of these like cooler conditions than found in the average modern home, so a cooler would be needed to keep them. How can I get these pictures to you guys, I've access to a scanner.
Martin.
