I wouldn't use the RO unit if I got hard water cichlids because it softens the water to just a few ppm and takes ph down to 6.0. I'd rather not buy the buffers if it can at all be avoided because it is probably pretty costly. I think I may steer away from the juliochromis, but I'll have to see what the fish store has. Thanks for the advice
