In Response To: Botia nigrolineatus??? (JD)

Gentlemen,

Thankyou so much for the prompt replies. Joe, we've discussed the royal clown loach before both having seen it many years ago for a very high price. I knew that it was a leptobotia sp. but I did not know this fish was elongata. Very cool thank you for bringing that together for me guys (Ken and Joe). I saw the royal clown nearly ten years ago when I was about thirteen ((I wasn't keeping loaches at that time-lungfishes (lepidosiren paradoxa and protopterus annectens) and bichirs (polypterus sp.)). JD, in regard to B. nigrolineatus this is a valid species that I do not have any more info on except that this species was described by Kottelat and Chu in 1987 (I should receive the paper from kottelat soon). Kottelat is one of the few experts in the world on the family cobitidae (works on Botia et al.). I've e-mailed him with questions and he has replied with some interesting info. Anyway, JD I let you know if it looks like sidthimunki as I've read it rumored to. I can tell you that it has been placed in the same modesta group (this is a further grouping describing certain botia species most similiar to modesta-taxonomy's a bitch isn't it) as sidthimunki. I'm extremely excited about seeing this fish! Ken, Deepak has been very cool and helpful in regard to my trip to Asia-thanks. Finally, the research I've been doing has reveiled that sidth. are found in quite a few rivers in Northern Thailand (Joe you had mentioned this I think). Makes me wonder whether there are new collecting sites. I tell you though this has got to be my favorite species and I'd hate to see it go extinct-Tom
