Botia morleti was described in 1885 by Tirant. In 1931 Smith rediscoved the morleti as b. horae. Not until the last 10 years was horae dubbed invalid. Do not feel bad;) I once speculated b. morleti displayed vertical barring while b. horae was bar free as an explination for the two names. Come to find out it is common for young skunks to display vertical barring. Usually this fades with age. I say usually only because in two I have the barring has become more defined with age. Go figure? I knoe the book and the photo you mention. It is displayed in the species archive for b. geto here with a caption indicating that this is "probably b. rostrata" I think.

I would agree with you with regards to the fishstore you visited. Sounds wonderful! It has taken me five years to acquire the species you list in the previous thread, and that is frequenting six stores! One on your list still eludes me tough (b. berdmori). I had trouble enough with the b. beauforti. When I was able to acquire some they were sold as b. hymenophysa not beauforti. So I see why folks get confused by following the names supplied at the lfs. Even b. lucasbahi would have been ok. Lucasbahi was 1937 Fowler but proved to be beauforti Smith 1931 and then invalidated. I do not even want to touch b. helodes and b. hymenophysa. These two are a major source of confusion for most lfs around here. It is a credit to the supplier that they are able to not only acquire all those species but to also correcly identify them.

You (or anyone for that matter) would not by any chance have this book would you? Talwar, P.K. and A.G. Jhingran, 1992 "Inland fishes of India and adjacent countries" Volume 1. Printed by A.A. Balkema, Rotterdam? in 1992. There is a reffrence I have to page 541 for Blyth's loach (b. berdmorei). I'm looking for what differenciates this species from beauforti other then external marking and I was hoping it might be there.

Getting older evey day... BB
