vertical stripes on skunks

I just got in a batch of skunk botias that are larger than I can usually find, about 2". Some (not all) have gray vertical stripes in addition to the skunk stripe. It's hard to tell in a tank of 75 skunks, but the stripes may come and go. Is this normal for near-adult skunks? A gender difference? Just stress marks? Or do I have a different sub-race or species?
