In Response To: Otos are good ... (Steve Burton)

Hi Steve,

I tried this method out for a while. I think there was a discussion on the Aquaria site and perhaps a thread here. You'd have to a hard search :)

Anyway, I set my timer to put lights on at 7am and off at 11am then on again at 16h30 (that 4.30pm for the dinosaurs who don't understand the 24h clock :) ) and off again at 23h00. I don't think it did any harm, but neither did I notice much difference in algae growth. What it did do is permit me to check up on the fish before going out to work in the morning and yet still enjoy their antics when I came home.

Since it didn't seem to have a positive effect, I decided in the interests of the fish to stop the experiment and only have the lights on from 11h to 23h.

Anne

ps. I'm glad your ottos like algae wafers. Mine seem to ignore them. They do hang on the cucumber / zucchini now and again but really, it's the snails that get the most benefit from that too.

pps. Did you get my mail ref food?
