Odd Clown Behavior

I observed something interesting last night and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it. As I sat in front of my loach tank, I noticed that all eight clowns were out & about chasing flake food (they're getting pretty brave, they even come up to the top for flakes - they ignore the shrimp pellets until later). I noticed my largest loach, "Boss Loach", had an entourage of about three partners - the next three largest clowns in the tank. They _looked_ as if they were chasing Boss around, something I haven't observed happening before (Boss is a pretty big loach compared to the rest). This went on for about, oh, ten minutes and culminated in Boss and Avis (he's the #2 loach in the tank) swimming stomach to stomach for a short while, then disappearing into the "Loach Cave" (a driftwood and stone cave large enough for the whole troupe of clowns). I've never seen these guys swim together like that, side by side of course and when loach-piling in the corner of the tank, but this was something new. If they were corys or angelfish I'd say it was spawning behavior, but with clowns I'm not sure...anyone have any ideas and/or pointers to information on this kind of thing?

On an only slightly-related topic, I got to watch some of the guys "fall asleep" last night for the first time! Amazing...they drift down to the bottom, find a "soft spot" on the gravel and fall over. They even move around a bit (still on their sides) looking like they're trying to get comfortable! It nearly put me to sleep watching them, too bad the other clowns decided that if they were awake, everyone would be awake with 'em...
