In Response To: Martin: Shistura loaches (Debbi)

Debbi, my recently aquired Indian fish book (see books and mags section for review) allowed me to ID them.

Shistura savona is called the Half-Banded Loach.

Shistura scaturigina is called the VIctory Loach.

As ever with common names it's a minefield, and I'd go with the Latin as something more positive. For instance the book has a "Many Banded LOach" and a "Banded Loach" ,but the Banded has more bands than the "Many Banded"........go figure!

I would recommend them as a Holy-Grail worth searching for. They are so lively, attractive, and entertaining that not wishing to detract from Botias, they are becoming one of my favourites.

Martin.
