New community tank.

I've fallen in love with the idea of getting a new fish tank and populating it with some (about 3 or 4) clown loaches. Now, what size tank would I need to get for them to be comfortable in? Is 30 gallons enough? I'd also like this to be a community tank -- what sorts of fish / plants do well with clown loaches?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
