I think it was flooring sand.

How fine are you looking for? We sell a brand called Granusil, which is silica. It comes in 2 different grades, but the grains aren't uniform. We use it at the store in the plant tanks, and I have it in 3 of my tanks. The loaches love it, but it's not dark. I believe Joe found black sand, but I haven't seen it around here.
