however as far as I understand the info at fishbase, it`s like this: take for example the fish named Schistura balteata. Rendahl has described it in 1948 as Nemacheilus balteatus. Since in the 80s Nemacheilus was a huge genus with many different fish that obviously belonged to different genera, several authors including Kottelat have split the genus Nemacheilus into several smaller genera and some fish remaining with the nemacheilus name. Schistura is one of these smaller genera and is the valid name for this fish, imho. What is still unclear to me, too is when the name schistura was created and by whom. It could be that the name schistura is quite old and was just revived due to some taxonomic rules. Does this answer your question somehow??
