In Response To: once again SAND!!!!!! (Sebastian)

I use swimming pool filter sand. It is actually silica sand and I have also seen the warning on the package. I don't believe that it should be a problem once it is in your tank since I think that the warning is more for breathing it.

I have only seen a couple of different colors (more of a gray/silver color and a tan color), both pretty light in color, but I think that the clown loaches look great on it. They seem to like the sand also. As for the brand name, the only one I remember said that it was "Silver Sand". I don't think that it was the name of the manufacturer. You might try different swimming pool supply places to see if they carry different brands/colors to get the one you like.

I also remembered seeing black sand in an old That Fish Place catelog. If I remember correctly, it was sand from Hawaii. I think that they have a black or dark sand available now. It might affect the pH and hardness of your water like crushed coral which would not be optimal for clown loaches, but you might want to check it out.
