Your example of Angelfish have been bred in Singapore now for many years.I worked in a fish importers '68-'70, and we imported thousands from there, which settled easily in hard, London water. I can't comment on the exact breeding conditions, but would speculate that the breeders were probably sensible enough to acclimatise the fish to harder water (even if they were a
