Does size really matter?

I recently increased my loach family after being the lucky bidder at an aquarium society auction. To my group of 3 2.5-inch clowns I added a bag of 4 more 2.5-inch clowns and a beautiful 5.5-6.0 inch clown. (and I only paid $26 for the whole bag!).

The small loaches have formed a happy school of seven, but the large one doesn't seem to do much more than hide in one of the caves. Is it possible that the big guy is lonely, even though there are seven other loaches wanting to play with him? Would it be beneficial to seek out another loach of similar size so that he has some friends his own age? Does size matter?

Thanks!

Amanda
