As long as there are no cool water species in the tank, I'll always go with the temp and salt. It works. You might encounter problems with planted tanks using this method though.
The last time I had ich was over 11 years ago. It was with my newly acquired 1" Clown Loaches (still have two of them). I tried 2 different ich meds for "scaleless" fish. Both failed to get rid of the ich. In fact, the Clowns became completely covered. I knew that if I didn't do something quickly, I'd loose them. I'd heard about ich not being able to live in higher temps, so I cranked it up to 90F and held my breath. It was a mixed community tank. I even had Corys in there. I pulled out all the stops, including things that would undoubtedly help as well as hearsay that could help: I added an airstone, added the rock salt, turned out the lights, and completely covered the tank in black plastic. (Joe Loach voodoo!). I thought I had nothing to loose...I mean the Clowns were ready to bite the dust. I was so very disappointed and angry at the ineffectual ich meds that I had used.
The rest, as they say, is history! :-) I was very pleasantly surprised at outcome. Quick turnover and death of the ich, and I didn't loose a single fish.
