Hi Joe Loach!
Thanks for your advice.
My tank is approximately 24 gallons (American) or, 98 liters. I have four Clown Loaches, and they are pretty small, about 6 cm (sorry, don't know how much that is in inches), the length of a traditional match-box. Further, I have two Blue Gouramis, three Goldfish, three Kuhli Loaches, two Corydora fish, two algae eaters, five Neon Tetras and some Gouppies as well. They're all small fish, as I started this tank some eight to ten weeks ago. Do you think my tank is crowded?
Last Saturday it was the first time I noticed this kind of aggressive behavior in my Loaches. I gave them food, and I arranged so that they got an extra hiding-place (by means of a clay-pot cut in half - is it OK to have a clay pot in the tank or can it be harmful to the fish?). They calmed down and behaved like friends again. Today, however, I did witness the same behavior once more, and, what's worse, I noticed that they try to nibble at my other fish. Once more I fed them, they were all (all of the fish) ravenous.
The thing is, I'm afraid of overfeeding, as I've already lost several fish as a result of overfeeding: nitrate levels soar. So I fell I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea. What shall I do? How do I know how much I should feed them? I feed them frozen live food as well as flakes, and occasionally shrimps, crab or cray-fish (I like to spoil them!). I try to follow the rule "give as much as is consumed in two to three minutes", and I feed them three times a day.
I'd very much appreciate your advice. Thanks!
Lydia
