The current aquarium temperature is 82 degrees. We have a sword, two vals, and two ludwigia on top of peat plates and 3-4" of gravel. The aquarium is relatively new, in fact I tend to think most of this has been caused by the cycling of the tank and a spike in nitrites. We have been doing water changes to maintain the levels as close to moderate as we can.

Its a 25 high with an Eclipse 2 for filtration. I'll go ahead and try the airstone, although it should be getting good gas exchange from the filter. I noticed the nitrite spike and started examining the fish, and saw the loach had 3 spots on him, so thats when we started all this.

The minnow seems a little better, eating more, less sluggish, slightly less swolen eye, so things might be ok. Thanks for the suggestions, we'll hold the temp, which had already been bumped up a little, and continue with the current treatment, while watching the ammonia and nitrite to make sure Maracyn Two doesn't affect it. After this is all done, we'll water change and pull the temp down to 78-80 and go from there. I'm most interested in what the salt does (make the water harder, softer, raise Ph, etc) and what that will do to the plants. Thanks a ton!
