I'm not positive about this, but I believe people use valisneria sp. in brackish tanks because it is very salt tolerant. I grow Am. swords, Ludwigia palustris, & assorted hygros, crypts, anubias barteri v. nana, Rotala indica, Crinum thal., Apon. crispus & gorgeous Bacopa caroliniana all with salt. Now, I have not had a plant tank set up for more than a yr, so I cannot say what the long term affects of salt on the plants are. I have been doing alot of reading on the Aq. Plants Digest mailing list & am considering cutting the amount I use in half.

But for short term, I have had very good growth under medium lighting. I would hate to give up salt altogether, because my fish are my first priority & I feel that salt acts as a preventative. Most bacteria & parasites' growth is inhibited by salt.
