Can this be infectious? Help needed urgently!

I hope you won't mind helping me with a Corydora I have just bought. I don't have a quarantine tank, but I buy all my fish from a very trustworthy fish-dealer. There I picked this Corydora specimen this very morning (big, beautiful creature), and eventually I dropped it in one of my tanks. I have just noticed that the fish has some sphere-looking white "thing" protruding from the root of one of his ventral fins (perhaps 1,5 mm in diameter). It looks like a tumor, sort of, and I don't know what to make of it. Anyone who knows what this might be? Should I move the fish somewhere else? Please help! Thanks! Lydia
