Steve, there's "The Aquarist", which has been going since about the '40's. Trouble is it seemed (IMHO) to stop developing (in the way PFK has) in the '70's I find it pretty boring really, and you don't see it around much,so I don't see it running much longer really.
I think you'll find The Maidenhead Aquatics branch pretty darned good when it opens. I've been to their original Bourne End branch, Ascot Waterworld, and North London Aquatic Centre branches over the years, and they've all impressed me (and I'm hard to please!).
Can you believe the fun we had last night? Actually I don't think we need an initiation ceremony. I am certainly interested in trying to get some kind of group going in this country. I was telling Lydia about how PFK and other (American)mags have carried articles on a particular fish group in the past and created a "fashion" for them. Rainbowfish for example. The number of species available exploded a few years ago after some articles appeared, creating demand, which the trade answered. Right now, it seems that PFK are receptive to anything that promotes fishkeeping in general. I'm prepared to mail Steve Windsor with the proposal of creating a specialist Loach club, and see if they could print the info, to see if there's an uncatered for interest out there. What do you think? I might even be prepared to write an article (they've had an article by me since January and not used it yet), pushing loaches and elaborating on their fascination. Could create the fashion we need! I'm also going to hype up LOL as I know they are interested in fish web-sites.
