Red-tailed Botia

I have a question about my Botia: He's a new addition to my tank and he seems EXTREMELY shy. He hides at the slightest movement (does he have good eyesight?) . He's alone as the petstore states that they do OK by themselves. However, I was wondering if they're better off with companions. Anyway, thanks for the help!
