Gold Nugget is used to describe a wealth of various black and yellow pl*co. The differences between them (appearence) are the size, intensity, or number of spots and how many of the fins are edged in yellow. Common names sunshine, gold dust, gold nugget ect... These catfish are ancistrus. Baryancistrus to be specific ...I think. L #'s 18, 85. Nocturnal in nature, caves suit these guys nicely. As a new fish it's most likely just stressed at the moment, especially with all the activity 18 loaches can stir up. As the fish becomes more comfortable it spends more time in the open. If it does not have a spot where it can hide it's a good idea to create one. I have never spawned these (not from lack of trying) but have kept them for years. The diet I have been feeding them consists of a paste I make by parboiling green/yellow squash with fresh beefheart. In the blender, add knox, and freeze. Of course easier would be parboiling green squash and then slice it lengthwise and add to tank at night. The loaches might appreciate this also. You must also feed protiens...worms are great for this. I have used black worms and they love them. They are of a size now where they will accept red wriglers. This is good because I fear feeding non landbourne worms. I never had any bad experiences, just leary I suppose. The thing to keep in mind is they need protien not just greens. Some say, and I have read on more then one occasion, that this sp. will eat wood as well. Mine have always been kept with driftwood. I experimented with bog and mopian wood also. In each case the pl*co could be found hugging it but I wouldn't say they require it. As the wood ages and becomes softer and rots they spent more time on it. In one case a male ate a hole in a particularly large piece and took up residence there. I wanted to spawn them and thought this was a good sign. (Just like the holes you see in the banks of rivers during the dry season.) Nothing happened :( The only thing I would worry about is that enough food finds the pl*co. The loaches won't be as shy and are bottom feeders. Hope it helps and good luck. .as an afterthought you might want to try jools site for info (see link) Joe could help here as well I think. Joe do you keep old newsgroup msgs. from Lnet? BB

nice pictures for identification and great info on specific sp.
