stocking new tank - fish compatiblity

Hi, This site has been a great education. My kids each got 10 gallon tanks for Christmas and, of course, now want at least two of everything they've seen at the lfs. After much persuasion, my 9 year old has narrowed his choices to a pair (or two) of angelfish (a must), some tetras (wavering between Buenos Aries and neons) and something that is more of a bottom dweller. At first, he'd said corys or a pleco, but now he's really hung on a clown loach (or several). Can some of you more experienced folks share your experiences of which fish are most compatible? How do the clowns do with the angels? Will a single clown be OK by itself or does it really like a few buddies of its own kind.
