You mentioned your bioload decreased when you removed your pl*co. Your ability to deal with toxic chemical buildup did also when you removed the bacteria in the substrate, and belive me removing a pl*co dosen't equal removing the substrate. Every tank has a carrying capacity and when you disrupt that balance, either by removing bacteria, or adding an additional source of ammonia, your filteration plays catchup until a new equlibrium is reached. Until that time toxic chemicals build up. The only reason I asked the questions I did was to examine the possibilities that there were other factors at work here. You do have to admit there has been alot of things going on in the past 12 weeks. The curious thing is that your water quality has always checked out fine. At some time one would think that your ammonia should have spiked a second time when you changed substrates, while the old load was compensated with the lack of biofiltration. Very strange. I wouldn't rule out the syno until I watched the behavior of these fish towards the clows while the lights were out. They (syno) should be most active at night. Somehow I keep coming back to the conclusion that the clowns are having an adverse reaction to the water quality. In any event I would look at that as well as the syno. Best of luck with the new fish and let me be the third to say "Welcome to lol". BB
