OK, so the other day in my BI 212 class we did this experiment where special filter papers were placed over plant leaves for about a week. The red filter only allowed in red spectrum light, the green, green, etc. Of course the green allowed no photosynthesis to occur, because chloroplasts cant use green spectrum light. We tested for the presence of starch to determine whether or not photo synthesis had ocurred under the various filters. Blue and red displayed the highest levels of photosynthesis occurring, while other colors were pretty much useless. If a plant can photosynthesize this much with *only* blue light, thats good enough for me. Besides, I get the bulbs for the normal price of flo bulbs, and I like the effect when the actinic is on by itself :-)
