I think you should be careful with any kind of heavy metal surfaces (besides stainless steel perhaps) in your tank. It might well be that chelating substances released by bacteria solve metal ions from such sources. In that case the metal might *seem* uncorroded, but you get higher levels of heavy metals in your tank water.
