Large clown loaches

The other day, I saw two HUGE, 12" (yes, 1 foot)clown loaches in the lfs. I've never seen them so big before. But anyway, it seems that most of the larger clown loaches that I see have faded coloration vs the more brilliant colors of the younger specimens. If anyone out there has any older clown loaches...are yours faded also? Thanks
