loach tank

i just finished building a small loach tank with somewhat unusual dimensions (2 feet long, 8 inches high). i want to put a group of eel-like loaches in it and create a fairly strong current. the tank will be planted with southeast asian bog and stream plants.

any ideas on what species i might use and the substrate that would be best? i had thought of using small glass beads or sand rather than the small pebbles i have used in the past.

aslo, does anyone have suggestions on the type of filter/aerator that i should use? i would prefer on that could be placed under the water. is this possible?

one other question...does anyone know anything about a loach that looks just like kuhlis, but is completely pink? i had one for many years and he just died. i'd like to get another but don't know what to ask for. he was so
