The surface skimming weir is a breeze. You cut the glass intake end panel shorter than the rest of the box walls, make your slotted weir out of plexiglass, then silicone it in position. That way, the central box is mainly glass, so dissimilar materials are not being siliconed together with the possibility of an inferior bond. You've then got the possibility of easily changing the weir design if necessary.
