Wasting away

I was just reading about the worms and loaches wasting away...my guppies recently lost a buddy guppy (just died overnight with no signs of stress) and now the other 2 have all but given up on eating...could this be worms? and can I treat the tank without injecting the fish? Is the Leviwhatever(will look it up) available to me in a liquid form for that kind of treatment? Or are my guppies just depressed? I had a platy that lost a buddy and she never recovered...she freaked out, stressed and eventually died too... People really dont realize how connected these fish get to each other.
