A loach?

As a new aquarium owner, I purchased a fish that I was told is a loach (I dont know the type) but I am now not sure. It has as best I can tell two barbels on the mouth. The fish is elongated and its fins have an transparent hue to them. On each side of its body is a long horizontal stripe reaching from the head to tail. The fish itself is a light brownish gray color. In the light, it appears at times to have an almost irridescent coloration. It loves to dig around the bottom of the tank for food. It almost never goes to the surface of the water--prefering the lower half of the tank. At night, when it is dark, the stripes on the fish disappear completely.
