Sheila's right. Tonic (not marine) Salt promotes slime growth on the fish and acts as a mild antiseptic which seems to supress ich (or maybe its the temperature?). I keep my clowns in 1tbl per 5g concentration water and at 82F and everyone is fat, happy and sleek, but if you aren't having any problems don't change a thing. Alistair.

PS. Did you know some commercial water softners contain phosphates - are you having any algae growth problems? If not, what doftner do you use?
