In Response To: Salt water - another reason (Dr. Momfish)

Hello Dr. Momfish

What do you believe, that the fish cares only about the water's total dissolved solids (dissolved electrolytes), or the concentration of each individual ionic species? I'm curious specifically about the osmotic pressures, what matters more, the total inbalance or the imbalance of individual ionic species? And, if it were individual ions would the size and charge make that ion have a higher/lower osmotic pressure?

Do you have in your library a reference that would give the "typical" ionic concentration of say [Na+] and [Cl-]?

Curiousity killed the cat? :)

Wintek
