I totally missed the point of your post. I'm glad BB didn't! IMHO, salt for the most part, long term, would not help loaches (or any other soft water fish)in hard water. I believe (and the recent posts have added to the belief) that fish are concerned with the total amount of dissolved minerals in the water. Adding salt to hard water (which your 8.6 pH would suggest) allready high in dissolved minerals would not be of benefit. Treating ich is another story! Hope this helps!
