Hi Dr. Momfish! Appreciate the depth of your answers...shows a great deal of insight and observation. Thanks for info regarding spots. I have 12-14 medium sized clowns in a 125g community tank (It is impossible to count them because of the plantings/rocks/wood). It appears that they all have some black spots. They seem to be grouped on their heads...between the snouts and in a perpendicular line above their eyes. They appear to be most abundant on the medium sized (3-4") clowns of which there are about 6. I have had these fish for about 10 months, with the other 6-8 for about 8 months. I wonder if this is not scarring from their jockeying around for position under the driftwood.
However, most of them have some larger black spots that disappear from time to time. About 4 months ago they were more prevalent. I had an outbreak of ich about 7 months ago due to a heater failure. Didn't loose any due to an excellent lfs owner who advised raising the temperature and waiting the ich out.
Most of these fish were also subjected to an outbreak of anemonas bacteria brought in in a direct shipment of Cardinal Tetra...It killed all the Cardinals, 6 of my large 5-6 inch clowns, and several other fish prior to the bacteria losing its virulence/resistance in remaining fish. Thanks for your continued help. Bob Gilbertson
