Evil Botia

I bought a small 2" Botia Modesta from the LFS the other day. I would have given him a few companions but he was the last one the store had. I took the little guy home and added him to a tank of discus, a black ghost knife, and several unusual corydoras. As I do frequent water changes, sometimes add salt, and the fish looked healthy I neglected qaurantining him.The loach ujusted well and ate vigourously. 2-3 days later a cory swam in agony as his eye was missing. The next day I found him dead along with his brother. I suspected the loach and isolated him. Did he do this and why?
