Clown loaches

I am a experienced aquarist and have been in the hobby for 6 years. i still have one question. A few days ago I was looking through a book and it said Clown loaches can only reach up to a length of 6 inches. Then I looked through two more books and they said the will grow up to 12-18 inches. I should find out which is right? Any responses will be greatly appreciated
