Reverse osmosis Revisited

I don't want to sound dense, But I am interested in the reverse osmosis and have read the threads out of the archives. However I really don't understand how this operates, is this something that can be used once a week for water changes or hooked directly to the tank for continuous filtering. How much water will be filtered at a time, GPH? We change two 80g tanks each saturday (you know were only beginners ;>) If we only need to use the RO unit for water changes how large of a unit would be need.

Can you explain this filteration in a "Reverse Osmosis for Dummies?"
