Seeking Basic Loach Information

Hi! I'm a fairly new aqua-freak and I've developed a penchant for loaches.

I want to start a tank specifically for loaches, and I'm looking for good, basic information about keeping loaches - what size tank is "ideal", if any? Live plants or plastic? What kind of filter, aeration, lighting, substrate and other tank environs do they prefer? How about water chemistry and temperature? And to top it all off, any suggestins on where to find the less common loaches? I have seen clows and zippers in my local fish stores, but I'd like to get a feel for the varieties out there.

Any reccomendations for books?
