In Response To: Salt? (Scogg)

I think, (you gave no latin name) that lemon yellow cichlids are from Lake Malawi. The type of water in that lake is very, very hard. (lots of calcium and magnesium salts dissolved in it) Clown loaches on the other hand come from waters that are very soft. So, you've got a slightly off-kilter combo happening in your tank. Most plecs are also soft water (rain forest) fish as well. Do you know the hardness of the water in your tank?

There are people who put salt in their water and then there are those who don't. Salt is used by some for treatment of ick. It also helps fish when they are stressed.

IMHO salt is not a necessity. I try to match the water to the native environment of the fish I keep. Lot
