Loaches and cichlids?

I have a tank with Lake Malawi Cichlids (Mbuna). It's a 55 gallon tank and there are six Mbuna in it. They are all 1"-2" in size. I was recently told that I could put clown, banded, or yo-yo loaches in the tank with the fish I have and being that loaches are bottom dwellers most of the time that they would help keep the substrate cleaner and also help in the eating of food particles that the cichlids either spit out or do not eat (I am aware of overfeeding fish and that it can cause bloat so I do not overfeed). Is this true and a good idea for me to go ahead and do this? I'd appreciate some advice. I do not know alot of information about Loaches and would like to ask from some of you who know more about Loaches than I. Thanks and enjoy. Eric
