Basic questions about my new aquarium especially ick

I am on my first aquarium, which I have had for 3.5 weeks. I've added one fish per week, once the ammonia levels have come down to clear on my test kit. My first fish was a clown loach, about 1.5", my second a tiny pleco, about 3/4". I didn't actually know anything about clowns when I bought the first one, but having watched it, and reading this website, I am hooked :) So my third fish has been also a 1.5" clown (and wow what a difference with my first clown once it had a buddy). I have one large rock with a hole in it that they hide in, and some live moss of some kind that grows off the rock, that they also hide in. I also have a small Green Wendtii (cryptocoryne wendtii) live plant.
