My Kuhlii Loach (help)

About a month and half ago i had bought 2 kuhlii loaches one had died over night but the bigger on has lived all this time (even threw the ick ). Anyway for the last 4 days he has sat in this same place (behind a rock i bought him ) he never comes out maybe to eat but i stick his food in the corner with him. Is this normal for him to it in his hiding spot so much ? I want to get a couple more kulii's so he can have friends but sadly i have no money to spare right now.
