I personally prefer the Penguin Bio-wheel series of filters. You don't have to worry about disturbing the bacterial bed, because you never rinse the wheel. On a tank that size, I would suggest 2 Emperor 400s. You have the bio-wheels, mechanical filter cartridges, plus media containers that you can fill with whatever substance suits your purpose. Another advantage to the Emperors is you can shut off the intake while feeding.
