happy clowns plus a question

My 3 new clown loaches now appear content in my 55-gal. tank where they have joined Whiskers, my first clown ... now he's REALLY happy! They are out and about more and more each day, with bright colors. They love the new driftwood (mentioned in earlier post), which has numerous spacious hidey holes. I've observed all four eating and clicking (well, I don't really know who was doing the clicking). Thanx again for advice on quarantine; I don't think I could have stood losing more clowns. Now the question ... will it be okay to add betta splendens ... perhaps a male and several females ... to occupy mostly the upper level of the tank? All the other residents are primarily bottom-dwe
