New aquarium- New loaches!!! (need ideas)

Hey out there! I recently had the good fortune of coming across an established breeding pair of L. Brichardi (daffodil cichlids) and I'm having a friend keep them in her relatively empty tank while I cycle in a new one. The pair are fully grown- the male is about four inches and the female, three. My question is... can I put a group of three loaches into the 30 gallon with them and if so, what species might be workable? The cichlids defend an area about 18 inches square and are not overly aggressive as cichlids go, they eat pellets and frozen foods. I'd appreciate any input.
