Sudden Loach Death

I have had two mysterious clown loach deaths at different times. Both were happy and healthy, about 4", about 3 to 6 years old. No signs of anything unusual, although both seemed a bit fat. I watched one eat breakfast, and found it dead when I came home from work. The other I saw die. Nothing unusual, then I heard a splash and looked over. It was darting about as if in a confused panic, and died within a minute. Perhaps it jumped and brained itself on the tank lid? There was no obvious injury. Heart attack? Stroke? Egg problems? Constipation? Suicide? Has anyone seen this happen?
