In Response To: Question From The Atlas. (Joe Loach)

JD,

You are absolutely right about the correction In the Atlas. However, I'm not sure its a morleti (although that is a much better guess than hymenophysa). From the scale of things that picture does not look like a immature fish. I personally think that this fish is one of the rarer B. species possibly B. eos although the pictures I have of eos do not match up perfectly. In regards to corrections we/you/me ought to get together a list of them (there are so many in other books and web sites in reference to loaches) Anyway, got on the webluis at the library last night and discovered nearly 10 books devoted to cobitid fishes (they are all published in asian countries-big surprise). In addition, I discovered to three realitively new discovered B. species from scientific journals. They include B. splendida, longidorsalis (from the discription it is most similiar to morleti but with more pronounced vertical body bars- could the fish referred to earlier), and B. caudipunctata. I've put in several interlibrary loans to get the most interesting of these works. I'll post the findings when I get the books. Also, this weekend I'll try to post the B. species for the three Baensch books as well as the other loach books I have-Tom
