To throw another light on the topic, I heard that they were found in some stream/river that got damned upstream to build a reservoir. This was a couple of years ago though so who knows. Maybe that happened first, then they found a pond full of breeders and harvested that for a while and now that's gone as well. You have to take everything you hear with a pinch of salt though... if you had control of the only known source of an incredibly hard to find fish would you like to ramp the price a little before you released a few? As a hobbyist, probably not but we're talking about exporters here who (a couple aside maybe) make a living by getting a decent price for these fish.

Would you export them in the thousands year round and get maybe 10c a fish? Or export them every now and then at a good size and get a few dollars a fish and be left with plenty more when demand pushed the price up again?

Just my 2p

Dave
