Need Help from the Experts...or anyone

who can help me with this one. I need to know if there is something to buy, or something I can rig up to the intake tube of a power filter, so small species don't get sucked up, and the long fins of bettas, for example do not get sucked in either hence pinning them to the intake tube. I've placed with an elastic a piece of bridal netting over the end of the tube, so the fins don't get sucked up, but the force of the suction is still too strong for a betta to get away...even at the lowest setting. So, who can tell me what to do? Thanks in advance all. Look forward to getting some good, fast ideas.
